Strong low pressure tracked from the Plains to Southern Wisconsin on Tuesday and Tuesday night, February 2, 2016.  This system brought a swath of heavy snow and blizzard conditions to much of the Midwest from Nebraska to Iowa to Minnesota and much of Wisconsin.  The only exception was southeast Wisconsin where mainly rain and sleet fell.

Madison, Wisconsin Dells, Green Lake, and Fond du Lac areas experienced thundersnow which dropped 1 to 2 inches per hour for a total of 1.5 to 8 inches.  Highest snowfall totals were observed in the La Crosse area with up to 10 inches of snow and in Northwest Wisconsin in Iron and Ashland counties with up to nearly 1.5 feet of snowfall.

Snowfall Totals for the Groundhog Day Winter Storm from early Tuesday morning through 7 am Thursday morning.
