Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms in the Plains to the Upper Midwest

A significant and dangerous heat wave will expand from the Central U.S. into the Eastern U.S and linger through much of the work week. Numerous daily record highs and warm lows are likely. Severe thunderstorms are possible from the southern Plains through the Upper Mississippi Valley. Fire weather concerns are expected to persist across the Four Corners region. Read More >

An intense weather system brought strong winds to parts of eastern Nebraska on Christmas Day. The initial reports received were associated with a band of showers and thunderstorms which rapidly moved across eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa on Sunday afternoon into evening. The strongest winds with this convective line occurred across Saline, Seward into Boone Counties where gusts of 60 to 64 mph were reported in addition to wind damage. More widespread damaging winds occurred behind the line of showers and thunderstorms Sunday evening. Very strong winds aloft were brought to the ground on the backside of a deep low pressure center with reports of 60-80 mph gusts and wind damage over parts northeast Nebraska.
