Critical Fire Weather Persists in the Southern High Plains; Snow in the Great Lakes into the Northeast

Elevated to critical fire weather conditions will persist across the central and southern High Plains today as gusty winds and dry conditions continue across the region. A clipper system will bring some lake effect snow to the Great Lakes and snow into the Northeast. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will feature gusty winds regionwide. Winds will be breezy to windy across the exposed areas of the Columbia Basin with gusts to 30-40 mph at times during the afternoon. There is a 60-80% chance for wind gusts of 50+ mph on ridges in the east slopes of the Washington Cascades and northern mountains. Gusty winds will create impacts for travelers, especially those in high profile vehicles. Additionally, blowing objects and isolated damage to trees is possible.
