What will you be doing on October 15, 2015 at 10:15am?

We recommend participating in the Great Wyoming ShakeOut.

What the Great Wyoming Shakeout?

This event encourages earthquake preparation so the reaction becomes instinctive in the event that an earthquake occurs. Specifically, it suggests trying the Drop, Cover, and Hold On! method for earthquake protection. What does this mean?

Drop - Get to the floor quickly!

Cover - Get under a sturdy desk or table

Hold On! - Grasp your chosen shelter and be prepared to move with it until shaking stops.

Drop! Cover! Hold On!

Get Ready to Shake Out.

"Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you live, work, or travel. The ShakeOut is your chance to practice protecting ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophe for you, your organization, and your community." -- shakeout.org

According to shakeout.org, to get prepared for earthquakes:

  • Secure building contents with seismic restraints / Check for any issues in your home's structure
  • Encourage employees/friends to prepare at home
  • Be sure there are fresh, accessible supplies to support yourself, coworkers, etc. while they manage the event
  • Create a personal or family disaster plan
  • Check and refresh your emergency supply kits
