Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. Scattered showers and storms will be possible again this afternoon... mainly across southeast Oklahoma and into west central Arkansas. Main impacts will be locally heavy downpours and lightning.
A low chance of showers and thunderstorms develops during the afternoon and evening Wednesday across portions of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Additional rain chances arrive late overnight and into Thursday morning, especially across northeast Oklahoma.
Heat indices between 95 to 105 degrees are forecast across eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas Wednesday. Please take precautions to avoid heat illness.
Periodic isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms persist through the end of the week, before precipitation chances diminish this weekend and next week. Temperatures and resulting heat indices will be increasing this weekend and especially into next week, with heat index values in excess of 105 degrees forecast next week. Continue to monitor the forecast and seek indoor shelter during lightning. Additionally, please follow heat safety precautions as temperatures warm.
