Areas of Extreme Heat and Fire Weather in the West; Refreshingly Cooler Further East

Extreme heat will continue across the Pacific Northwest into midweek before finally waning. Hot temperatures, low relative humidity, gusty winds, and isolated dry thunderstorms will bring critical fire weather into Tuesday. An area of rain showers and embedded thunderstorms is expected to overspread the region this morning through this afternoon. Additional development is expected across east central and southeast Oklahoma as well as portions of west central Arkansas tonight. Widespread 1 to 2 inch rains are expected across northeast and east central Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas, with isolated 3 to 4 inch totals possible through Tuesday morning.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected this week across eastern Oklahoma and northwest and west central Arkansas, including the potential for periods of locally heavy rainfall, which will increase the risk of flooding. At this time, the greatest risk of heavy rainfall and potential flooding looks to be today through tonight, and again Wednesday night through Thursday night. Continue to monitor forecasts this week, especially if you live in a flood prone area.
A cold front has pushed south through eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas, and widespread cloudiness associated with showers and thunderstorms will overspread much of the region today. Southeastern Oklahoma is expected to experience seasonably hot temperatures today, otherwise much of the area will experience temperatures below seasonal averages with moderate to high rain chances much of this week beginning today.
