Extremely dangerous heat will persist from the Midwest to the East Coast into late this week. Monsoonal moisture may produce excessive rain and considerable flash flooding and debris flows, especially near recent burn scar areas in New Mexico and west Texas. Hot conditions persist across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this week. Please know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To avoid heat illness, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, stay hydrated, and take breaks when outdoors.
Isolated afternoon storms are forecast from SE OK into NW AR Tuesday afternoon. Gusty winds, heavy downpours and dangerous lightning can be expected if a storm develops over your location.
Shower and storm chances exist for most days this week, mainly during the afternoon hours. The highest coverage is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thunderstorms may produce dangerous lightning, locally heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. However, most locations are expected to remain dry.
