Warmer temperatures will return to central California early next week as an upper level ridging pattern builds in over the region. Afternoon highs Monday and Tuesday are expected to be five to ten degrees above average across the San Joaquin Valley. This heat brings a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses to those sensitive to heat, such as older adults (65+), infants, athletes, outdoor workers, those without effective cooling, and those with chronic diseases. There is some risk to the general population. Actions to take include staying hydrated, wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing, reducing time spent outdoors and/or in direct sun. For those without air conditioning, use fans to keep air moving and open windows at night.
