            AN NWS STORM SURVEY CONCLUDED THAT A TORNADO OF MAGNITUDE
            EF-2 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE ENTERED MCDUFFIE COUNTY
            NEAR US HWY 278 AROUND 816 PM EST...AND TRAVELLED NE 
            THROUGH THE THOMSON AREA AROUND 820 PM...AND DISSIPATED 
            IN EXTREME NE MCDUFFIE COUNTY. IN THE THOMSON 
            VICINITY...NUMEROUS TREES WERE DOWNED...AND DAMAGE WAS 
            DONE TO MANY HOMES AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS. THE DAMAGE 
            PATH WAS APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES LONG...AND ABOUT 1/4 MILE
            WIDE. ESTIMATED WINDS WERE AROUND 125 MPH. NO INJURIES.

            NUMEROUS TREES DOWN IN THE SOUTH CONGAREE AND GASTON 
            AREA. SEVERAL TREES FELL ONTO HOMES AND VEHICLES. A 
            SURVEY BY A NWS METEOROLOGIST CONFIRMED THE DAMAGE WAS 
            CAUSED BY THUNDERSTORM DOWNBURST WINDS. A FIRE TO A HOME 
            WAS CAUSED BY LIGHTNING PRODUCING 55K IN DAMAGES. 
            ADDITIONAL DAMAGE DUE TO THUNDERSTORM WIND WAS ESTIMATED 
            BY LEXINGTON COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO BE AROUND 
            80K. NO INJURIES.
