January 20-21, 2012 Central Indiana Winter Weather


Surface Weather Map valid at 10 PM EST January 20 

Low pressure moved up the Ohio Valley the evening of January 20, allowing a mixture of winter precipitation to fall across central Indiana. Across the northern third of the area, mostly snow fell. Across the central third, mainly sleet with a mix of snow and freezing rain fell. Across the south, mainly freezing rain fell. Snowfall across the north averaged 1 to 3 inches, with around 1 inch of sleet and snow across the central part of the area. Across the south, 1 to 2 tenths of an inch of freezing rain accumulated. Travel became hazardous across much of the area during the evening of the 20th into the morning of the 21st.
