Severe Weather of June 2010

June 2010 brought several rounds of severe weather to Central Indiana, including 4 tornadoes, widespread wind damage, and flooding.

Much of the severe weather was caused by a persistent frontal boundary that meandered across the area. Warm and humid air remained to the south of the front, and this was the fuel for the thunderstorms. Waves of storms moved along the frontal boundary and impacted Central Indiana, especially during the evening and overnight hours. Most of the severe activity occurred from June 12 through June 22.

The above is a rainfall map, showing the total rainfall for a two week period ending June 22. Much of Central Indiana received between 5 and 10 inches of rain during that period, leading to flooding of many streams and rivers.
