Hot weather will continue today with afternoon heat indices approaching 105, especially where the sun is out the most over southeast Arkansas and northeast Louisiana into western and South Central Mississippi.
Storms are expected to develop later this afternoon and continue through tonight. A few storms could be severe and capable of producing damaging wind gusts along with locally heavy rainfall.
The threat for severe storms and heavy rain is expected to continue into Saturday for mainly southern portions of the ArkLaMiss.
Chances for showers & storms will increase north of Interstate 20 today as a cold front approaches from the north. Otherwise, look for continued hot muggy conditions as highs climb into the low & middle 90s. Afternoon heat index values will generally range between 100F-105F in most locations.
