Helene Continues to Strengthen

Helene is forecast to intensify and be near hurricane strength Wednesday in the far northwestern Caribbean Sea. It is expected to intensify into a major hurricane before it approaches the northeastern Gulf Coast on Thursday. Thunderstorm chances return to parts of northeast OK Tuesday afternoon and spread across eastern OK into western AR Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning. The greater potential is forecast over eastern OK Tuesday evening and into southeast OK Tuesday night. Locally heavy rainfall is possible in the stronger storms. Rain showers should taper off and exit to the southeast Wednesday morning.
Forecast high temperatures in the 70s and 80s across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Rain chances return late afternoon and increase this evening.
