Watching Hurricane Erin; Heavy Rainfall Threat for Upper Midwest; Heatrisk for Mississippi Valley

Hurricane Erin continues to track westward with its outer bands bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds for Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Life-threatening surf and rip currents are occurring and will spread across the Atlantic coasts this week. A Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect for Anchorage until 10am this morning. Road conditions are already deteriorating in portions of the area due to icing from freezing rain. The worst conditions are in Eagle River, the Lower Hillside, and East Anchorage. Everyone venturing out this morning should exercise extreme caution.

Warming temperatures and diminishing precipitation later this morning will end the freezing rain threat. Partly cloudy skies, gusty winds, and high temperatures ranging from 40-45 degrees are expected this afternoon!
