A frontal boundary extending from the western High Plains to the Southeast will focus additional showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some of these storms may become severe, alongside frequent lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. A strong front is bringing increased winds and heavy rains to coastal areas of Southwest Alaska today. Expect sustained winds of 45 to 60 mph with gusts to 70 mph across the Alaska Peninsula to continue and reaching into Bristol Bay and the Kuskokwim Delta regions by this afternoon.
Offshore waves from Kuskokwim Bay to Etolin Strait will build to 20 ft through this evening with waves of 7 to 10 ft in coastal waters. At this time no coastal flooding is expected. The heaviest rainfall will occur along the southern portion of the mountains.
