Nor'Easter Continues to Bring Heavy Rain and Coastal Impacts; Nolo Continues to Impact Hawaii

The nor’easter will weaken tonight, easing beach conditions and coastal flooding, though locally heavy rain will continue in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England into Monday. Hurricane Nolo continues to bring strong winds and large waves to Hawaii. A multi-day rain event will return to the Four Corners region Monday and expand to the south-central U.S. by midweek. As tropical moisture continues to stream into the region, several rounds of rain, some heavy at times, could bring at least a 40% chance for excessive rainfall and flash flooding to a large portion of the combined Panhandle. The heaviest rainfall rates will most likely occur Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

A flash flood watch has been issued across the western and central combined Panhandles. It is in effect for 7 AM Tuesday through 1 PM Wednesday. The highest flash flood risk is in urban areas, locations that had significant rainfall last week, and other locations that received prolonged or repeated rounds of heavy precipitation within a short time. Remember, if you encounter flooding on the roads, turn around, don't drown!

Thunderstorms will be possible across the eastern Panhandles Wednesday afternoon and evening. If thunderstorms are able to develop, there is a low chance for a few strong to severe thunderstorms. Check back for updates.

Rain chances overnight tonight will be focused primarily in the western combined Panhandles. Higher chances for rain will encompass more of the central and eastern Panhandles later in the morning and into the early afternoon, while still remaining high across the western portion.

We are still expecting multiple rounds of heavy rain to occur this week, especially tomorrow and Wednesday. There is a significant threat of flooding associated with this system. The greatest unknown is the speed of the low pressure, and how quickly it will move eastward. If the system pushes east slowly, the highest precipitation will fall in our west. On the other hand, if it speeds up, the highest precipitation totals will be further east. Please check back for the latest updates.
