Multiple rounds of thunderstorms with heavy rain will be possible Friday through Monday, bringing potential for localized flash flooding, street flooding, and rises on rivers/streams. Some storms Friday and Saturday may be strong to severe. Saturday afternoon may also feature hazardous heat.

 

Periods of Heavy Rain Friday through Monday

  • What: Thunderstorms bringing heavy rain
  • Where: Across the region, but primarily along/north of I-90
  • Timing: Periodically Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon
  • Impacts: localized flooding. Ponding of water on roadways, storm sewers may backup. Mud and rock slides possible in hilly terrain. Rises on area rivers and streams
  • ACTION: If flooding is observed, move to higher ground. Never drive a vehicle across a flooded road - it could be washed out or car easily carried into flood waters. Exercise extreme caution at night - harder to recognize the dangers of flash flooding

Strong to Severe Storms Friday and Saturday

  • What: Severe storms
  • Where: mainly along, north of I-90
  • Timing: Friday 4 PM to Midnight. Saturday afternoon/evening.
  • Impacts: hail damage to property, crops possible. Winds could damage trees, down power lines
  • ACTION: stay weather aware! Take shelter when storms approach

Hot and Humid Saturday

  • What: Heat index values in the upper 90s to around 100
  • Where: Mainly along, south of I-90
  • Timing: Saturday noon to 7 PM
  • Impacts: dangerous heat! Heat related illnesses can occur in as little as 30 minutes. Children, pets and the elderly as especially susceptible to the heat
  • ACTION: avoid prolonged exposure to the heat - postpone or reschedule outdoor activities. Stay hydrated
