National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Statewide tornado drills are planned in Minnesota and Wisconsin later today, Thursday, April 11th.  If there is a threat for severe weather, which is unlikely at the moment, the drills will be postponed until Friday.

We hope you take advantage of these drills by testing your tornado safety plans at work, home, or at school.

Here is the schedule:

1:45 p.m. CDT - Afternoon Tornado Drill

6:45 p.m. CDT - Evening Tornado Drill

NOTE: While some communities may use local outdoor sirens, no live Emergency Alert System (EAS) codes will be used during this drill. In addition, Tornado Warning codes will not be sent over weather radio. Because of this, the drill will not be carried over cell phones via the Wireless Emergency Alert system.

Please rehearse your tornado safety plans today!  For more information, check our severe weather awareness week page at:

The La Crosse National Weather Service will be testing our Spotter Activation Notification System for the afternoon drill only.  Plus we plan on making contact with area Amateur Radio repeaters to test out communications with our mobile spotters as well.
