Winter Weather Brings Dangerous Travel Conditions Across the Northern U.S.

Heavy lake effect snow will persist downwind of the Great Lakes through early Saturday. Snow squalls with heavy snow and gusty winds will create dangerous travel in the Interior Northeast due to low visibility and slippery roads. On Wednesday, July 31, 2019 technicians upgraded the software at
the Doppler Radar site located near Minot. This upgrade adds a 
lower surveillance scan at 0.3 degrees. Previously the lowest scan
had been 0.5 degrees.

The change will improve weather radar coverage across the entire 
area served by this radar. This was already evidenced by National 
Weather Service Forecasters during the severe weather that 
occurred in the northern part of the state on Thursday.
