Heavy Rainfall Possible in the Upper Midwest, South Texas, and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

Scattered thunderstorms and heavy rainfall may bring areas of flooding though the weekend over the Upper Midwest. A tropical disturbance will bring moderate to locally heavy rain to portions of South Texas into Saturday. Tropical Storm Erin may bring isolated flash and urban flooding, landslides or mudslides, and tropical storm conditions to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Read More >

   General Overview
 
   What: Isolated thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon and evening hours ahead of a storm system that was moving southeastward across eastern Iowa and Illinois. The strongest of these thunderstorms produced large hail and strong gusty winds.
  When: late afternoon and evening hours on July 13, 2015
  Rainfall Amounts: A few hundredths to three quarters of an inch
  Hail Sizes: nickel to softball
  Wind Speeds: 50 to 60 MPH
  Hardest Hit Areas: Calamus. Grand Mound, and LeClaire Iowa as well as Geneseo Illinois for hail. Memphis and Rutledge Missouri as well as Hennepin Illinois for wind gusts.
