Overview
A prolonged period of heat and heavy rain was seen beginning the middle of June through the entire month of July. There were several stretches of oppressive heat with afternoon heat indices greater than 100 degrees at times. There were many days with dewpoints greater than 65 degrees indicative of humid conditions. In fact, Moline, Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids saw their most consecutive days of 65+ degree dewpoints since 1997 with over 40 days in a row! This year has been unusually humid compared to normal and as a result, there were several days of heavy rain from the middle of June through the month of July. Many hometowns saw over 9 inches of rain for the month of July, which some seeing their wettest July on record. This allowed rises on area rivers, with minor to moderate flooding occurring. |

Widespread rainfall totals over 9 inches were seen across much of the forecast area and the state of Iowa during the month of July. It was the 5th wettest July in Burlington (8.80") and in Moline (9.31"). Dubuque saw its 9th wettest July on record (8.30").
