Tracking Major Hurricane Erin; Hot in the Mid-Mississippi Valley

Major Hurricane Erin is tracking just north of the lower Bahamas today. Dangerous surf and rip current threats increase this week for most of the Atlantic coastline. Erin's outerbands may impact the Outer Banks later this week. A slow-moving front starting Wednesday will bring daily chances for storms with the potential for locally heavy rain over South-Central Texas. Slow-moving storms and heavy downpours could lead to isolated flash flooding, so keep an eye on the forecast.
High temperatures will run 1 to 4 degrees above August 18th averages, ranging from the 90s up to 103. Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into evening east of US 281.
Temperatures will be within a few degrees of August averages through the next week. Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected. Locally heavy rains and gusty winds are possible.
