Severe Weather Preparedness is important year-round! While many people may first think of Spring as severe weather season, severe thunderstorms can occur here in Georgia during the Fall and Winter months. To emphasize our secondary peak in severe weather across the state (late Fall/early Winter) and help maintain readiness, today is being recognized as Severe Weather Preparedness Day in Georgia. Take a little time to refresh and review your severe weather plans, restock your Ready Kit, and rebuild your knowledge on severe weather safety! Click on the links below for more severe weather information.

An important aspect of severe weather warnings includes the information received from the public and spotters. Not only do timely and accurate storm reports help the National Weather Service to verify warnings, but they also help meteorologists better relate radar data with corresponding observed weather. If you observe hail (quarter sized or larger), strong/damaging winds, or a funnel cloud/tornado anywhere across north and central Georgia, please report it to the National Weather Service (Peachtree City/Atlanta Office) at 1-866-763-4466. To learn more about our local Skywarn spotter program, visit the Storm Spotter Information page.
