Thunderstorms from the Plains into the Central Appalachians; Heavy Rain in the Central Gulf Coast; Heat Across Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely from from northeast New Mexico/Southeast Colorado, eastward into the Central Plains through the Central Appalachians. Slow moving low to bring heavy rainfall to the Central Gulf Coast into the weekend. Hot and humid conditions expected today and Thursday with low (10-25%) chances for isolated storms in the afternoon. Brief heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds are possible. High temperatures will be in the 90s and afternoon heat index values may approach 98 to 105 degrees each day.
Temperatures in the mid to upper 90s will be in place this weekend across North and Central Texas. There will be low chance of storms both Friday and Saturday afternoon across the Brazos Valley and East Texas. Heat index values will approach 109 degrees. Make sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade if you plan on spending extended periods of time outdoors.
With the return of dry weather, temperatures will slowly climb into the mid to upper 90s by the end of the week and into the weekend. Heat indices will also be on the rise (upper 90s to near 109), so make sure to practice heat safety wherever you are!
