Above Normal Temperatures, Strong Thunderstorms, Tropical Development Being Monitored

Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. Scattered showers are expected from now to this evening. Highest concentration of shower activity will be along/west of I-35 and across Central Texas. Gusty winds and localized heavy rainfall are possible in any stronger storms. Temperatures will be cooler than usual, in the 80s.
Morning showers and storms will gradually decrease through the day Friday, with most precipitation likely gone around sunset. Coverage will spotty in the afternoon and evening. While no severe weather is expected, anticipate impacts from lightning, brief downpours, and gusty winds should a storm move into your area.
Low storm chances will continue mainly across the western half of the region this weekend. No severe weather is expected. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
High pressure will strengthen overhead next week with highs climbing into the upper 90s. Heat indices ("feels like" temps) will climb into the triple digits.
