Heavy Rain is Likely Across the Mid-Atlantic States Today Along With Potentially Damaging Wind Gusts; Critical Fire Weather in the Great Basin

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected today across the Mid-Atlantic and forecast to contain heavy to excessive rainfall. Additional storms will develop today with the highest chances across Central and East Texas in the late afternoon and evening. The severe weather threat is low, but a strong storm or two with gusty winds may occur as well as locally heavy rain, similar to Tuesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s.
Isolated storms will continue across East Texas Thursday. Severe weather is not expected, but a few strong storms may produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Highs will be in the 90s through Friday with heat index ("Feels Like" temps) up to 104 degrees.
Near or slightly below normal temperatures are expected into next week with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Low storm chances exist for portions of North and Central Texas each day, but it will not be a washout. Heat index values will mostly be between 97 to 102 degrees, but East Texas will likely experience areas up to 105 degrees Sunday into early next week.
