Flooding Threat Along the Gulf Coast, Southern Rockies and High Plains; Cooler Weather in the Central and Eastern U.S.

Strong thunderstorms may bring excessive rainfall and flooding over parts of the northern Gulf Coast today and over parts of the southern Rockies into the High Plains today through the weekend. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will overspread much of the area this morning. Additional showers and storms will develop during the afternoon, with the best chances across Central Texas. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning will be the main threats with any of the activity today. Cloudy skies will keep temperatures mostly in the 80s, though portions of Central Texas will likely climb into the low 90s.
Periodic showers and thunderstorms will continue through the remainder of the Labor Day weekend. Widespread showers and storms are expected on Sunday, with isolated to scattered showers and storms Sunday night and Monday. Severe weather will remain unlikely, but gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flooding will be possible. Plan for interruptions to outdoor activities, and if you encounter a flooded road, Turn Around, Don't Drown!
