Sweltering heat remains across the South-Central Plains and Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley, as well as in the Southwest and California this week with limited nighttime relief. Heavy rainfall will lead to localized areas of flash flooding in parts of the Ohio Valley/Central Appalachians. Elevated Rain Chances

Rain chances are forecast to remain near to slightly above normal through the end of the week. We're not talking an all day rain, but the usual summertime variety of passing showers and storms amidst partly cloudy skies. Rain amounts will generally range from one quarter to one half inch, but heavier downpours could easily produce isolated 1-2" of rainfall accumulation. Winds will begin to firm up a bit with gentle, occasionally moderate, east to southeasterly breezes expected. Highs will remain in the lower 90s. #flwx
