WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE
Warm temperatures and near normal precipitation highlighted the weather
pattern across most of western and north central Nebraska in June. While
temperatures were above normal across the entire area, precipitation
was near normal to slightly above normal west of highway 83. East of this
route, precipitation totals were near normal to slightly below normal.
For North Platte, the average daily mean temperature for the month of
June was 72.6 degrees which was 4.7 degrees above the normal of 67.9
degrees. The average daily high temperature for June was 87.4 degrees
which was 5.6 degrees above the normal of 81.8 degrees. The average daily
low temperature for the month was 57.9 degrees which was 3.9 degrees above
the normal of 54.0 degrees. No daily temperature records were set during
the month of June at North Platte.
For Valentine, the average daily mean temperature for the month of
June was 72.3 degrees which was 4.8 degrees above the normal of 67.5
degrees. June 2016 will go down as the 9th warmest on record for
Valentine. The average daily high temperature for June was 87.5
degrees which was 6.4 degrees above the normal of 81.1 degrees. The
average daily low temperature for the month was 57.2 degrees which
was 3.2 degrees above the normal of 54.0 degrees. On the 11th, the
high temperature in Valentine was 102 degrees which tied the record
high for that date. The last time 102 degrees occurred on the 11th
of June was in 1893.
At Lee Bird Field in North Platte, precipitation for June totaled
3.26 inches which was 0.16 inches below the normal of 3.42 inches.
No daily precipitation records were set during the month of
June for North Platte.
At Miller field in Valentine, precipitation for June totaled 4.16 inches
which was 0.60 inches above the normal of 3.56 inches. One daily
precipitation record was set during the month for Valentine. On the 13th
2.00 inches of rain fell at Miller Field breaking the record of 1.90 inches
set previously in 2005.
