Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall from the Plains to the Mid-Atlantic

Severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds are most likely over parts of the Dakotas into Minnesota from this afternoon into the overnight, with other isolated storms producing hail or wind over the northern High Plains. September 20-21 2013 Calcasieu Parish Flash Flood

The highest measured amounts observed were in the Moss Bluff/Gillis area of Calcasieu Parish. One gauge recorded a total of 15.67 inches. There were two gauges that reported 3 hour totals around 8.3 inches between 9 PM and Midnight on the 20th. According to statistics developed by the Hydrometeorological Design Studies Center, this type of rainfall has a probability of between 0.5% and 1% occurring in any given year!
