Jody James
Warning Coordination Meteorologist National Weather Service – Lubbock TX |
Introduction: Early in my career, I worked for several years in TV as a broadcast meteorologist in Amarillo, Texas and Springfield, Missouri. I enjoyed interacting with the public, talking to school kids, and communicating weather information. I even got to meet and interview several country music stars from nearby Branson, including Johnny Cash, while working in Missouri. I have worked at the Lubbock National Weather Service Office since 1994 as a Journeyman and Senior Forecaster before being promoted to WCM in 2007, during which time the Lubbock office won several Department of Commerce Medals for service during weather events in West Texas that included winter storms and dust storms. I have been a private pilot since 1998, and have been fortunate to do a lot of weather training for pilots over the course of my career. I have worked in temporary duty capacity flying missions for post storm wind mapping reconnaissance efforts in Hurricane Charlie, and provided decision support during Hurricane Irene, and more recently during Hurricane Gustav in 2008. I have traveled to China, Thailand, Peru, and Vietnam in the past few years. I have three extraordinary children and a beautiful wife of 25+ years. I enjoy spending time with my family, working in my local church, traveling, biking, and photography.
