KLBK, Ch. 13 in Lubbock has elevated their efforts by launching the "Weather Ready Nation Report" in September of this year. Each week on this segment of the news show, KLBK meteorologists highlight a different type of weather phenomena showcasing the dangers it can potentially pose, and the ways in which the public can prepare and stay safe. KLBK has through this safety campaign promoted weather safety, amplified WRN messaging, and become a force multiplier in the South Plains region of West Texas.

Learn more about Weather-Ready Nation and the Ambassadors of Excellence

NOAA’s Weather-Ready Nation is building community resilience in the face of increasing vulnerability to extreme weather, water and climate events. To achieve this goal, the National Weather Service is working with its partners, but requires the participation and commitment of a vast nationwide network of Ambassadors. Everyday, Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors serve a pivotal role in affecting societal change, sharing safety messaging, serving as an example, and highlighting successes - all helping to build a Weather-Ready Nation!

In 2018, the Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador Initiative surpassed 8,000 WRN Ambassadors committed to spreading WRN messages and building community resilience when extreme weather threatens. To honor the great work and accomplishments of our WRN Ambassadors, NOAA/NWS is formally recognizing those Ambassadors who have made significant contributions to building a Weather-Ready Nation. NOAA/NWS would like to congratulate these Ambassadors for their great work this past year! By serving as a change agent and leader in their community, they have inspired others to be better prepared, and promoting taking action to minimize or even avoid the impacts of extreme weather, water and climate events.

The NWS Lubbock Office would like to encourage all partners and entities that are involved in public safety and emergency management across the South Plains, southern Panhandle, and Rolling Plains to sign up to become a WRN Ambassador.
