Tornadoes & Severe Weather:

Arkansas was significantly impacted by two major severe weather events:

May 15–16: A widespread severe weather event affected multiple states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. The NWS Storm Prediction Center issued a moderate risk convective outlook for severe weather across much of the region for May 16. Several dozen tornadoes were confirmed on May 16, many of them strong to violent. Two tornadoes occurred across northwest Arkansas on the 16th. Several storms produced large hail on the 16th, with a few reports of hail between 2.00-2.50 inches in diameter.

Temperatures across Arkansas in May 2025 were variable, with periods of both cooler and warmer-than-average conditions:

Early May: Cooler temperatures prevailed, with average highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s.
Mid-May: Temperatures began to rise, with highs reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s.
Late May: A significant warming trend occurred, with highs frequently in the upper 80s to low 90s, particularly in central and southern parts of the state.

This warming trend was influenced by a developing ridge of high pressure over the Gulf, which brought prolonged periods of heat and humidity across the southern U.S., including Arkansas.

Rainfall & Flooding:

The severe weather events in May brought substantial rainfall to Arkansas, leading to continued river flooding, especially in areas with already saturated ground.
