A destructive tornado tracked through Mayflower and Vilonia (both in southern Faulkner County) during the evening of April 27, 2014. The tornado caused extensive damage, and was given a rating of EF4 (166-200 mph winds).
 
One of the hardest hit areas was the River Plantation subdivision southwest of Mayflower (Faulkner County) along the Arkansas River.

Not far away, a house with a basement on Lake Conway sheltered many people from the storm.
