
A strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to California through the holiday week. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday in the Los Angeles Basin. Flash and urban flooding is possible. A prolonged heavy snowfall is expected in the Sierra Nevada from the atmospheric river, raising concerns for major snow‐load impacts. A strong cold front will move across the area today. Snow, blowing and drifting snow will cause hazardous travel conditions across the west through the afternoon. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for far western portions until 5 pm. Snowfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches for the mountains, with local amounts of 9 to 15 inches in the Tetons. Lower elevations in the far west will see 4 to 5 inches. Other areas of the state south may see a dusting of snow up to a couple of inches.
Strong winds will also accompany the system in the western mountains, , I-80 and the southern wind corridor and northern I-25 corridor. High Wind Warnings are in effect for portions of Fremont, Natrona and Johnson Counties today where wind gusts over 60 mph are expected. Strong northwest wind will continue across the Wind River Basin and northeast Johnson County through this evening.

...EVENT SUMMARY...
A stream of moisture brought snow to the western Wyoming mountains
late December 20th through late the 22nd. Warm temperatures kept
notable accumulations above 8000 feet, with lower valley and basin
elevations receiving a rain/snow mix or just rain. Highest totals
were over the Teton Mountains. Below are estimated snow totals for
the mountains.
