Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall through This Weekend

A multi-day thunderstorm and heavy rain event will impact the south-central U.S. this Memorial Day weekend. Severe thunderstorms may produce large hail, severe gusts, and a possible tornado or two across portions of the central and southern Plains through Monday.   • Annual: 1st driest year on 81 years of record (1939-2020), with just 46.2 percent of normal precipitation, 20th snowiest year on record with 119 percent of normal annual snowfall.  Highest wind gust was 75 mph on January 4th.
     
  • Monthly Temperatures: 10th coldest October on record.
     
  • Monthly Precipitation: 1st driest May (tie), 1st driest July, 4th driest August and 1st driest November (tie) on record.
     
  • Monthly Snowfall: 1st snowiest February and 4th snowiest September on record.

                    The peak wind gust for the year was 70 mph which occurred on November 7th.

     
  • Monthly Temperature: 3rd warmest August on record at 73.3 degrees (tie).
  • Monthly Precipitation: 1st Driest May (tie) with 0.06 inches, and 6th driest August with a 0.05.
  • Monthly Snowfall: 4th least snowiest November (tie) with a trace.
