Winds shift to the north/northwest Friday afternoon bringing elevated fire weather conditions with gusts of 35 to 50 mph expected for most mountains, including the I-5 corridor, Antelope Valley, Central Coast, and southern Santa Barbara County. Given the hot, dry conditions, reduce exposure to the heat, and stay hydrated. Look before locking vehicles for children, elderly and pets. Vehicles can become dangerously hot in a short period of time. Report any wildfires to authorities.
Strong to gale force winds and choppy seas will affect most of the coastal waters Friday through the weekend. Expecting elevated surf at west facing coasts, with strong, dangerous rip currents. Remain off the rocks and jetties at the coast. Inexperienced boaters are advised to remain in harbor.
