Heat Wave in the Northeastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Plains and Upper Midwest; Critical Fire Weather in the Southwestern U.S.

The first significant heat wave this season will impact much of the Midwest, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast this week. Record high temperatures and rapid onset drought is possible. In the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, strong to severe thunderstorms with excessive rainfall are possible today. A late spring storm system will move through the region today into Tuesday bringing periods of showers and thunderstorms. Snowfall is possible in the mountains above 7,000 feet as well. Monitor the forecast if you have outdoor plans!
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in southeastern Montana this afternoon and evening. These storms could produce quarter size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Storm threat will begin around 2pm with storms moving east through the evening.
A cold weather system moving through the northern Rockies will bring snowfall to the high elevations today into Tuesday. If you have outdoor plans in the high country, or are planning to travel the Beartooth Highway, monitor the forecast!
Snow is expected over the higher elevations of the Beartooth Highway. Monitor the latest forecast and check road conditions if you have travel plans through the mountains early this week.
