A few strong to severe storms may develop in southeastern NM tomorrow afternoon and evening. Storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a brief tornado as they move to the southeast. The severe potential is expected to end a couple hours after sunset.
Widespread critical to extreme fire danger on Sunday afternoon in western and central NM will rapidly spread any new fire starts . Wind gusts up to 55 mph will also create hazardous crosswinds for high profile vehicles and patchy blowing dust. Critical fire weather conditions are expected to continue for much of the area into the middle of the week.
An extended pattern for potential large fire growth is expected to start on Sunday and last through at least midweeki. Strong winds will combine with very low relative humidity to create critical to extreme fire weather conditions in much northern and central NM. Rapid fire spread is likely with any fire starts. Do your part to prevent wildfires and create #OneLessSpark.
