Significant Weather Events for October 2021...

October 5th - 9th...A strong upper level area of low pressure
across the Lower Mississippi Valley gradually moved northeast. The
associated surface low pressure area over the same area moved
east-northeast and reformed off the Carolina coast. This multi-day
event produced very heavy rainfall across northeast Georgia, the
Upstate and Mountains of South Carolina and western North Carolina.

Rainfall amounts ranged from 1 to 2 inches across the central-southern
Midlands and CSRA. Higher amounts fell to the northwest of the region
across the Upstate. Rainfall amounts averaged between 2 and 5 inches
with some areas receiving from 5 to 9 inches along the Savannah River.

This produced some high flows and minor river flooding along the Saluda
River at Chappells and along the Congaree River downstream to the
confluence of the Wateree River. The Saluda River at Chappells crested
at 19.88 feet on the late evening of the 9th. Flood stage is 14.0
feet. The Congaree at Columbia and downstream to the Congaree National
Park did not reach flood stage, but the river ran high for several
days. The Congaree River at Columbia crested at 9.23 feet on the early
morning hours of the 9th. Advisory Stage is 10.0 feet and Flood Stage
is 19.0 feet. The Congaree River at Carolina Eastman crested at 113.5
feet on the afternoon of the 9th, flood stage is 115.0 feet on the
afternoon of the 9th. The Congaree River at Gadsden-Congaree National
Park crested at 13.38 feet on the afternoon of the 9th, flood stage
is 15.0 feet.

October 18th...Cold Canadian high pressure settled in across the
Midlands and Central Savannah River Area behind a cold front. This
produced some chilly morning temperatures that fell into the middle
to upper 30s. There were a couple of isolated reports of frost.

Here are the morning lows from the 18th:

...CHILLY MORNING ACROSS THE MIDLANDS AND CSRA...
...INFLUENCE OF WARMER URBAN AREAS AND LAKES...
