Hot Temperatures in the Northwest U.S.; Excessive Rainfall Potential in the Southwest U.S.

Hot to extremely hot daytime temperatures remain in place across coastal southern California and the interior Northwest, with the Northwest carrying the potential for record-breaking high temperatures. A combination of monsoonal moisture and tropical moisture ahead of tropical cyclone Lorena will bring a marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall across the southwest U.S. this week. Read More >

This article is from Jan 2018 and is no longer valid: Strong northerly gap winds are expected to develop across Southcentral Sunday afternoon through Monday. The strongest winds can be expected at Thompson Pass where gusts could reach as high as 70 mph leading to periods of reduced visibility due to blowing and drifting snow as well as wind chills nearing -40 F. Strong winds can also be expected in Valdez and the Matanuska Valley, including Palmer and Wasilla, where gusts up to 60 mph can be expected.
