Overview

A strong storm system swept through the Great Lakes from Thursday, February 23rd into Friday, February 24th. A wide array of precipitation occurred across northern Michigan, including snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, thunderstorms, and large hail.

Winter Weather Advisories encompassed the northern two-thirds of northern Michigan while a total of three severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for portions of northern Lower Michigan. Preliminary research suggests that the three severe thunderstorm warnings issued on February 24th were the first severe weather warnings issued in the month of February across northern Michigan since records were established starting in 1950.
