Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. Severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening in far southwest Wisconsin and adjacent areas of northeastern Iowa. Localized heavy rain is also possible across much of the region, especially southeast of a Mason City Iowa to Marshfield Wisconsin line.

 

Severe Storms

  • What: Severe storms
  • Where: Far southwest Wisconsin, portions of northeast Iowa
  • Timing: Through 9 PM CDT
  • Impacts: hail damage to property, crops possible. Winds could damage trees, down power lines
  • ACTION: stay weather aware! Take shelter when storms approach

Heavy Rain

  • What: Localized heavy rain
  • Where: Across the region, especially in southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa
  • Timing: Through 9 PM CDT
  • Impacts: localized flooding. Ponding of water on roadways, storm sewers may backup. Mud and rock slides possible in hilly terrain. Rises on area rivers and streams
  • ACTION: If flooding is observed, move to higher ground. Never drive a vehicle across a flooded road - it could be washed out or car easily carried into flood waters. Exercise extreme caution at night - harder to recognize the dangers of flash flooding
