National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Effective June 1, 2018, the National Weather Service has discontinued the provision of river flood forecasts for the Trempealeau River at Arcadia, Wisconsin. Due to a loss of funding, the river monitoring equipment at Arcadia has been shut down. The river gauge equipment is owned and operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Wisconsin Water Science Center in Middleton, WI.

The loss of river monitoring equipment makes it impractical to continue providing river level forecasts for Arcadia. The National Weather Service will continue to provide areal flood warnings for larger portions of the area when necessary. Additionally, river forecasts for the Trempealeau River at Dodge, WI will continue.

Automated river monitoring equipment in Arcadia was installed in July of 2013. Since that time, data from this location has been used in National Weather Service river models to assist with the forecast of river levels in the region.

Data and forecasts for the Trempealeau River at Dodge, WI and other rivers around the area can be viewed on the NWS La Crosse AHPS website. AHPS is the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, which is part of a NWS-wide effort to improve flood forecasting. Visitors to this website can view current river stages, forecasts out to 7 days, maps, historical information, and probabilistic forecasts out to 90 days.
