Winter Storm and Cold for the Weekend

A prolonged period of moderate to heavy snow affects the region through Sunday morning, resulting in hazardous road conditions. Portions of NE Iowa into SW Wisconsin could see snowfall amounts of 12+". The risk for blowing snow increases tonight into Sunday morning.   LaFayette WI (Monroe County) tornado - F0

On Friday, September 7, 2001, a line of thunderstorms moved into western Monroe County and produced a small tornado touchdown between Cataract and Sparta, WI. The tornado, rated F-0 on the Fujita Scale, tracked through a grove of trees about 3 miles southeast of Cataract and hit a mobile home along County Road Q.

The mobile home was demolished, injuring a woman who was inside at the time the storm struck. The mobile home was not tied down and sitting on blocks. Debris was thrown into nearby trees and down wind at least a quarter-mile. Time of the tornado was approx. 630 pm.

Damage from thunderstorms was also reported in the La Crosse, WI area and on the northwest side of Necedah, WI (Juneau County).
