Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Threats Continue into the Weekend

Severe thunderstorms are expected from the southern Plains to the Midwest through Friday night. Severe storm hazards may include large hail, severe winds, and tornadoes, some of which may be strong. There will be another chance for severe thunderstorms on Saturday for portions of Texas, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Ohio Valley. Easter Sunday can fall between March 22nd and April 25th. The highest temperature ever recorded on Easter Sunday was on April 18th, 1976 when the thermometer reached 81 degrees. The coldest it has been on an Easter Sunday was 5 degrees reached on April 1, 1923.

Normal temperatures will range through the various dates that Easter can occur. Early in the calendar, Easters normally are 44F for the high, and 28F for the low. Later Easters typically are warmer, with normal highs of 59F and lows of 40F.

The wettest Easter occurred on Sunday, April 3rd 1988 when 0.91 inches of rain fell. The snowiest Easter was back in 1994 when on April 3rd, 1.3 inches of snow fell.

On Easter, April 7th, 1912 a wind storm drove ice on Lake Erie into the entrance of the Inner Harbor and up the Buffalo River. These winds also sent two large steamers into the shallow water.

On Easter, April 14th, 1974 a severe thunderstorm swept across Chautauqua County. This storm produced a small tornado that touched down near French Creek and created minor damage.
