2000

Thunderstorms dropped over four inches of rain in less than two hours over parts of southern Livingston County. In the town of Nunda, trees and driveways were washed away by the flood waters. In Cattaraugus county, Torrential rains caused destructive flash flooding during the afternoon and evening hours. Over three inches of rain fell in less than a couple of hours. A mudslide closed portions of Interstate 86 (formerly Route 17) for several hours. Over forty basements were flooded. Roads were washed away including the Parkway Drive Extension.

Thunderstorms developed ahead of an advancing cold front. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines and scattered outages were reported in: Fredonia, Volney, Buffalo, Maple View, Elma, Lockport, Batavia, Eagle, Kendall, and Arcade.

2006

Warm and humid conditions persisted across the region with lake breezy boundaries and upper level disturbances being the focus for thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening hours. The thunderstorms brought torrential rains and gusty winds that uprooted trees and tore down utility poles and wires. Nearly 10,000 customers were left without power. Several structures sustained damage from the strong winds. The heavy rains that accompanied the storms resulted in poor drainage flooding on roads and in basements.
