
Cold temperatures will continue across much of the eastern U.S. into today. Heavy lake effect snow continues into today east of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Two Pacific cold fronts will cross the Pacific Northwest early this week followed by another atmospheric river. 1997 Thunderstorms developed during the afternoon hours along lake breezes from Lakes Erie and Ontario. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in Niagara, Orleans, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Scattered power outages were reported. Specific towns reporting damage included: Newfane, Ridgeway, Clymer, Red House, and Wellsville. 1998 Thunderstorms accompanied by almost continuous lightning, torrential rains, damaging winds and pea to marble sized hail swept across Monroe and Ontario counties. Over 15,000 were without power when thunderstorm winds downed power lines and poles.
