Western New York Weather History

MARCH 25

1996

A strong cold front swept through Western New York during the evening hours of the 25th. Strong south winds ahead of the front brought down trees, power lines and telephone lines over the western southern tier and the Niagara frontier. Velocities were measured as high as 74 mph. Two construction workers were injured in Buffalo when a retaining wall collapsed. Damage was reported in Otto, Mayville, Medina, Cheektowaga, Batavia, Arcade, and Kennedy. Thunderstorms accompanying the cold front produced damaging winds that downed trees and power lines in Rochester and Dansville.
