Labor Day is a federal holiday to celebrate the achievements of the American labor force. US President Grover Cleveland established Labor Day as a Federal Holiday back in 1887, and is celebrated on the first Monday in September. Labor Day can occur between the 1st and 7th of September. On Labor Day, September 4th, 1944, a moderate earthquake that registered 5.6 on the Richter Scale was felt at 11:39 pm. The quake was centered near Massena, by the Saint Lawrence River. Perceptible vibrations were felt in homes and buildings. Light furniture was displaced and dishes rattled.

Behind a cold front, a 60 mph wind gust occurred at the Rochester Airport on the Labor Day morning of 2020. Several trees fell through the Genesee Valley.
