Prolonged Atmospheric River Will Impact the Northwest Early this Week

A weather system in the Pacific Northwest will produce rain throughout the day, before a potent atmospheric river produces a prolonged round of heavy rainfall, widespread urban and river flooding, and high elevation snow to the region Monday through Wednesday. 2014-15 Eastern Great Lakes Ice Cover Shots

 

The information provided below is brought to you by the NWS office in Buffalo, NY.  All of these fantastic images have been accessed from the Naval Research Laboratory, MODIS Today, or NOAA CoastWatch.

The page tracks the seasonal development of ice cover on the eastern Great Lakes.  Meteorologists monitor ice conditions for several reason, most importantly to determine the potential contribution from the open waters of the Great Lakes for lake effect snow storms.
